OCTOBER 2020

I hope you are all enjoying the change in weather. It's been a difficult winter for many of us and the sunshine is welcome. ANU has announced a recovery plan to address the financial impact of COVID on university finances. You can read all about it here and you will have a chance to take part in the consultation process via your school. I encourage you to raise any concerns you have.

I'd like to congratulate Nutsinee Kijbunchoo, from the School of Physics for winning the ANU 3MT 2020 for her presentation “Catching the Waves in the Sea of Noise”, Jessica Sharmin Rahman, from School of Computer Science won people’s choice. You can view the other excellent
3MT competitors here early next week. ANU Visualise your Thesis winner, Anthony Leung is still in the running at the University of Melbourne final - we wish him all the best.

Congratulations to all the people who have completed their program this month. If you are close to completion but need some motivation, please apply for a place in one of our 2 upcoming
Thesis Boot Camps listed below. These will run face to face, in a COVID safe way and will be a nice opportunity to connect with others and get up to 20,000 words written by Christmas! I hope to meet some of you there.

Our award-winning Thesis Boot Camps are back! *COVID SAFE*

Research candidates can often encounter difficulties with writing towards the end of their degree. Thesis Boot Camp helps you do a large amount of work on your thesis and develop productive writing habits in three days. The concept of Thesis Boot Camp is disarmingly simple. Put a group of people experiencing similar issues in the same room for a weekend, feed them regularly and provide a reward for every 5,000 words written. We have free two camps of 60 participants each this year, click here to find out more and join us.

  • 20-22 November, Fri-Sun
  • 14-16 December, Mon-Wed

Research to Impact

ANUHDR

As a researcher, you may be frustrated by the difficulty of finding ways to apply your research or ideas into meaningful results in the real world. The changing landscape has led to career challenges for early-stage researchers and lower funding for research team leaders. The two-part webinar series will engage in these challenges and provide tools to enable you to find answers about industry needs, to adapt to be more prevalent in your field and attract the resources you need to take your projects forward. Find out more here.
