From the Pro Vice-Chancellor Research and Research Training Exciting opportunities are available this month. 3MT training is now on (see above), leading up to the ANU final in September. Take the chance to polish your presentation skills and increase the impact of your research. Whether you win or not, this is a great way to get over presentation nerves and learn to make a pitch about your research. This is a key skill for job search and for winning grants so don't underestimate the value. Also keep an eye out for a call for applications to attend the PhD Forum run by the Group of Eight (Go8; Australia's top eight universities) and the China 9 (C9) expected to be held at Nanjing University in late October on the topic of 'Big Data'. One HASS and one STEM student will have the chance to present at the conference with 34 top students from Australia and China. Your Colleges will be sending out information shortly. Nowadays the internet and gaming feels like a very natural place for information and exchange with these technological mediums linking us to infinite sources, people and communities, including social media. However, when these are hard to turn down and contaminate productivity in work, study, personally and socially the impact can create overwhelm, stress and an uncomfortable mental state.
