As announced recently, Professor Jenny Corbett finished in her role as Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research and Research Training) at the end of September. I would like to warmly thank Jenny for her dedicated service over the last almost 4 years in working with research students to improve the HDR student experience and improving policies, systems and processes for HDR students. I know that Jenny had a chance to thank members of the HDR Student Consultative Committee, Associate Deans (HDR), members of the Higher Degree Committee and many students over the last month. She is returning to the role of Distinguished Professor in the Crawford School of Public Policy to resume her research career and so will still be a familiar face across campus.
As previously announced, recruitment of a new Dean, Higher Degree Research is underway. In the transition period, please continue to use pvc.rrt@anu.edu.au for any issues. I will be looking after HDR students along with the Research Skills and Training team until the new Dean arrives.
Finally congratulations to the outstanding achievements of all HDR students who participated in the 3MT competition. Unfortunately, there can be only one winner, but all College heats, semi-final and finals showcased your efforts and the great research that is conducted here at ANU. Congratulations to Joshua Chu-Tan, the winner of the 2016 ANU Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition with his presentation on developing gene therapies for age-related macular degeneration, the leading cause of blindness in the developed world.
