Register here for the biggest night of the year showcasing #ANUresearch. Cheer on your college, support your mates and bring your family to this all ages event.

You may have seen the first edition of the HDR Student Handbook around campus. This gives useful information about HDR candidature and support services available across ANU. As with any new publication there are teething issues, so please note changes to page 21 of the handbook (dealing with research student travel). This incorrectly states HDR students are not covered by ANU’s travel insurance when travelling for research purposes. HDR students who have received approval to travel (through the online Eform process) are covered by ANU corporate travel insurance. The text should read:

IMPORTANT: You should always have your travel approved through the online eForms portal to be covered by ANU corporate travel insurance.  When you arrange travel you should note that HDR Students have limited University cover for accidents and medical emergencies when engaged in PhD research related activity. For more information, contact ANU Insurance Office on +61 2 6125 8734 or at insurance.office@anu.edu.au.

National Library of Australia’s Summer Scholarships are now open for applications (close 30th September). These scholarships support postgraduate researchers (30 or under) requiring special access to the Library’s collections, and fund travel, accommodation and a living allowance for up to six weeks over January-February.

The Global Young Scientist Summit (GYSS) in Singapore is also open for applications from PhD scholars and post-doc academics under 35. GYSS runs from 15-20 January 2017, and anyone interested should contact Peter.Francis@anu.edu.au.

Our first Fox Fellow at Yale, Stacy-ann Robinson from the Fenner School of Environment and Society has headed off for an exciting year working on high priority environmental issues for some of the world’s most vulnerable countries

Expressions of interest for Westpac’s STEM PhD program are also open. Successful applicants will be employed part time by Westpac (in Sydney) with a base salary of $60,000
while continuing their PhD. If you are between 1 and 2 years (F/T) into your PhD, interested in working with Westpac, and have support from your supervisor, contact Peter.Francis@anu.edu.au.
