ANU to Canberra Civic Loop Bus - Trial Service

ANU-Civic Loop Bus

A free bus connecting campus with Civic to make public transport easier and campus travel simpler.

The ANU-Civic Loop Bus is a free service designed to improve community access to and around campus. This service will run for six months, assessing ANU community demand and trialling a shuttle linking ANU Acton campus with Civic transport interchanges. This service is ideal for commuting to campus via bus or light rail, getting to appointments in Civic and everyday city trips for residential students. By making shared transport easier, the trial supports ANU broader goals to reduce car dependence and improve campus accessibility.

Yes. The ANU-Civic Loop Bus is a free service available to all ANU students, staff and visitors. No ticket or card is required.

Where does the bus go?

The ANU-Civic Loop Bus travels around Acton campus, connecting to key campus locations with major transport interchanges in Civic, including Rimmer Street and the Alinga Street light rail stop.

The bus operates approximately every 20 minutes weekdays between 7:30am-7:30pm (excluding public holidays). Full timetable details can be downloaded here.

The service is open to everyone, including students, staff, visitors and members of the public travelling to or through campus.

Yes. The bus is wheelchair accessible and designed to support students and staff with mobility needs. Accessible boarding points are provided at designated stops across campus.

No, the bus has been contracted by ANU and is run by Deanes Coaches. The service complements, rather than replaces, existing Transport Canberra routes.

The service is being introduced as a six-month trial to assess demand and operational needs. Feedback and usage data collected during the pilot will help inform any future decisions about extending hours or service days.

The bus route has been designed to balance accessibility to key locations on campus and Civic, safety, travel time and approvals from Transport Canberra. Not all locations on campus are suitable for bus access due to road layout, pedestrian volumes or accessibility requirements. As this is a six-month pilot, the route may be adjusted based on usage data and student and staff feedback. You can suggest new stops, route or timetable changes via the feedback form.

The bus does not have a dedicated storage space. The only flexible area is the wheelchair space with fold-up seating, which is always prioritised for accessibility. The only large items permitted to use this space are prams, scooters and e-scooters. Bikes and e-bikes are not permitted on board. The bus driver has the right to refuse entry to passengers with bulky items if the bus is crowed and they pose a safety hazard.

You can share your experience, suggestions, or issues through the feedback form. This feedback will help shape any future campus transport services.
