Use of CMS principles and deadlines
CMS means some publishing functionality has moved to College staff. It is important that clear principles are maintained regarding curriculum content, timeframes for changes and publishing of these changes to curriculum objects.
Key principles
- A key principle in curriculum management is maintaining a stable curriculum for students.
- The programs and courses website is the official published information for students to use in the management of their progression through their degree including;
- Admission requirements
- Course/class selection
- Understanding the requirements for majors/minors/specialisations
- Understanding the overall requirements for their award.
- Adherence to the requirements of the Academic Programs and Courses Accreditation Policy and Procedure
- Adherence to the deadlines that have been approved for submission to AQAC/AB
- Adherence to the approved delegations framework for changes to curriculum items
- Adherence to the schedule for changes to curriculum items.
Programs and Plans
New - published by ASQO
All new programs/plans must be approved through the relevant University committees. All new programs/plans must come through ASQO for progression to these committees.
Amendment - published by ASQO
All amendments will be assessed by ASQO and then either: 1. Published immediately by ASQO if the amendment is a streamlined amendment and noted for AQAC/AB, or
2. If assessed as requiring University committee approvals will be published by ASQO following approval through URC/AQAC/AB.
Very minor amendments such as updates to conveners, correction of minor mistakes and updates to further information will be published immediately by ASQO and do not require noting by the University committees.
Majors/Minors/Specialisations (MMS)
New and Disestablished - published by ASQO
All new and disestablished MMS must be approved through the relevant University committee. All new and disestablished MMS must come through ASQO for progression to the committees and for publishing to P&C.
Amendment – published by ASQO
MMS amendments are approved by Colleges with the exception of admission requirements on Honours specialisations. The admission requirements are approved by University committees. All MMS amendments come to ASQO for publishing.
All MMS are required to be self-contained i.e. a student is able to complete the requirements of the MMS without having to take any courses outside of the listed requirements of the MMS. The exceptions are undergraduate specialisations that must;
- have a co-requisite major or
- all required pre-requisites must be contained within the compulsory courses of the program e.g. Bachelor of Engineering
Courses
New - published by Colleges
New courses should be published prior to enrolments opening for the subsequent year.
New courses should also be published prior to submitting any new or amended program/plans to which the courses are a component.
Courses
If you are not sure which catalogue number to use, please email programsandcourses@anu.edu.au and we will help identify an appropriate number.
If you require a course to have a second offering (i.e. where there are F and P versions of the course), these will need to be flagged to ASQO to add the additional information and publish.
Research vs Post-graduate coding
Research courses do not display on programs and courses website. This decision was made due to the majority of research courses being enrolment shells for research and have no detail to display. If you need a course to display on P&C then it will need to be given the PGRD career.
Amendment - published by Colleges
Courses need to remain stable for students to rely on.
Some course information should not change through the year e.g. course descriptions, learning outcomes, prescribed texts, assumed knowledge, requisites etc. Please refer to the Schedule for Updates to Programs and Courses for deadlines.
Some information can change as required - other information, preliminary readings, indicative reading lists, and indicative assessment as per student assessment policy
Requisites
Requisites need to be updated by P&C staff. If these are in bulk, such as towards the end of the year for the subsequent year; they can be provided in a spreadsheet format. We will update the requisite in SAS and then update the requirement number if required through CMS.
Course Inactivation
Inactivation of courses needs to be actioned by ASQO. Notification is received from by ASQO from CMS for relevant actions to be taken, cancelling scheduled classes, inactivating the course etc.
