Parking options on Acton Campus

2025 permits

The University offers differing types of parking options to staff, students and campus visitors.

Staff, students, approved affiliate organisations and their staff may park on campus using ePermit if they are eligible to do so.

People who are not eligible to purchase an epermit, are able to park in PayStay parking zones after paying the appropriate fee to do so. There are a limited number of parking bays available at no charge.

Disability parking bays are available across campus for holders of Australian mobility permits.

Parking restrictions apply 24 hours a day, 7 days a week unless stated otherwise. Permit, PayStay and time limited zones are in forced from 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday, public holidays excepted.  Drivers must observe all traffic and parking control signs on ANU land, and unpaid Parking Infringement Notices will be enforced through the ACT Magistrates Court.

Permit parking

You can easily apply for and manage your ePermits via our self-service portal:

  • Go to the ePermits self-service portal at https://epermits-anu.orikan.tech/ssp/
  • Log in using your ANU email account (ie: U number or A number whatever is applicable). This ensures the system recognises you as an ANU student or staff member to determine your permit eligibility
  • Follow the prompts to apply for or manage your ePermit
  • You may add up three vehicles on your permit, however, only one vehicle is able to be parked on campus on any given day. You do not need to select an active vehicle when parking on campus.

Parking permits are available to eligible:

1. Staff

Eligibility
Eligible full-time, part-time and casual staff may apply for and purchase a parking permit. Staff must work more than 10 hours a week to be eligible for a permit and the staff member must be employed for 90 days or more. The minimum period a permit may be purchased for is 90 days. On-going staff ePermit application instructions and Casual/affiliate staff ePermit application instructions.

Payroll deductions

Full-time and part-time staff may pay for their permit by pre or post-tax payroll deduction. Payroll deductions will continue until the ePermit holder logs into their account and request permit be withdrawn. A permit paid for by payroll deduction cannot be cancelled and re-applied for within two weeks of the cancellation unless approved by the Parking Office.

It should be noted the payroll deduction amount may change on 1 January each year.

Payroll deductions are charged for a full fortnight, in arrears, they are not pro-rata based on the permit start date.  This is to align with fortnightly pay runs.  Permit holders can choose to start their ePermit at the beginning of the pay period (Thursday of each pay fortnight) and use PayStay for daily parking permits as an interim measure if they prefer. The pay period calendar can be found here.

ePermits paid for by payroll deduction are paid in arrears and no refund will be made.

Casual and part-time staff

Casual and affiliate staff must work more than 10 hours a week to be eligible for a permit and the casual and affiliate staff member must be employed for 90 days or more. The minimum period a permit may be purchased for is 90 days. Casual and affiliate staff should upload a proof of eligibility document (PDF or JPEG format) directly to their ePermit application. The document should be from a business manager or department supervisor and should include the number of hours worked per fortnight and the duration of their engagement.

Permits are for the sole use of the person they have been issued to. They are not to be sold, transferred or shared between drivers.

2. Students (who do not live on campus)

To be eligible for a permit students must be enrolled in a full time course load - 18 units or more. Units are not accumulative across the year. If able to provide the Parking Office with a valid Centrelink Health Care Card or Disability Support Pension card students may be exempt from this requirement. Student ePermit application instructions.

PhD students, who do not appear as eligible when applying for an ePermit on-line, should contact the Parking Office via email for assistance.

Students may pay for their permit on-line, in person at the Parking Office or by noting their permit number and contacting the Parking Office on (02) 6125 0179 to arrange payment. The permit will be activated as soon as payment is processed i.e. a permit is not active or valid until it is paid for.

If an ePermit has been cancelled a new ePermit cannot be purchased within two weeks of the cancellation unless approved by the Parking Office.

Permits are for the sole use of the person they have been issued to. They are not to be sold, transferred or shared between drivers.

Drivers (non-residents) may include three active vehicles on their permit, however, only one vehicle is able to be parked on campus on any given day.  Parking more than one vehicle on campus on any given day may result in an infringement notice being issued.

3. Residents (living in residential accommodation on Acton campus)

Residents can only have one vehicle registered against their permit. Residential ePermit application instructions.

Residents are able to apply for a permit to park in their designated residential zone only - they are not eligible to purchase a student surface permit.

Resident parking permits will be released on 13 January 2025 on a staggered basis.  The release time is included in the resident parking zone information below.

Residents living on campus are eligible to purchase a permit for their residence, subject to availability. The zones for each residential venue are:-

If you change your place of residence during the year you will need to cancel your current permit and place your name of the waiting list for your new residence e.g. if you are a B&G resident permit holder and you move to Wamburun you will not be eligible to hold a B&G resident permit.

Permits are only valid for the year in which they are issued. They do not provide the holder with a priority for subsequent years. The waiting list for each year will not be carried over to the following year.

There are a limited number of bays available for each residence.  Resident students who apply for a parking permit for their residence but cannot get one will automatically join an electronic waitlist. Once a parking permit for your residence becomes available, you will receive an email alert. You will be given 48 hours to pay for the permit. If you are holding a different parking station permit when offered a waitlist resident permit, you must cancel your current permit prior to accepting the waitlist permit offer.

Whilst waiting for a resident space to become available residents are able to purchase a permit (subject to availability) to park in either the Kingsley, Baldessin or Acton Underhill parking station.

A space in these stations is reserved for the parking station permit holder 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  It should, however, be noted the space is not designated and may vary from day to day.

Students living on campus are not eligible to purchase non-resident student surface permits.

If you are not an ANU student i.e. you are a UC or ACU student you will not be able to purchase an ANU permit.

To be eligible to purchase a permit you must be enrolled in 18 units or more and upload a letter (in pdf or jpeg format) from your residential venue confirming you have been accepted as a 2025 resident. If you will be a part time student in 2025 please email parking@anu.edu.au for more information. If you are new to the ANU in 2025 you will need to register, apply and pay for an ePermit, subject to availability.

Please note: Permits are not to be sold, transferred or shared between drivers. Purchasing a permit for someone other than yourself may be subjected to disciplinary action under the Code of Conduct.

How can I be added to a waitlist?

From 13 January 2025, if you apply for a specific type of permit but it is not currently available, you will automatically be added to an electronic waitlist through ePermit. You need to do this only once. If a permit becomes available, an email notification will be sent to the applicant's registered email address. Applicants have 48 hours to accept the offered permit and make the necessary payment. Failure to purchase the permit within that timeframe, will result in their name being removed from the waitlist. However, they can add their name back to the waitlist at any time. Please note that if applicable, permit holders must cancel their current permit prior to accepting the waitlist offer.

If you hold a resident permit for a parking zone outside a parking station e.g Graduate House, and when returning to your resident zone are unable to find parking within your designated resident parking zone, please contact the parking office on (02) 6125 0179, during office hours, for advice as to where you may park. If you return to your designated resident zone after 5.00pm on a weekday or on a weekend, you may park in any Paid Parking zone as long as you move your vehicle back to the correct resident zone prior to 8.00am on the next weekday.

Residents with a Baldessin or Kingsley Street parking station permit who return to campus after dark and are concerned about walking across campus may park in a surface parking zone closer to their residence after 5.00pm Monday to Friday or on weekends. They must return to their resident parking zone by 8.00am on the next weekday.

Permits are for the sole use of the person they have been issued to. They are not to be sold, transferred or shared between drivers.

Drivers parking on campus for extended periods of time (residents) are required to check their vehicle on a weekly basis to ensure an infringement notice has not been placed on the vehicle.

Note: If an ePermit has been cancelled a new ePermit cannot be purchased within two weeks of cancellation unless approved by the Parking Office.

4. Reserved/Authorised parking

Reserved/Authorised parking is limited and available only to individuals and departments approved by the University Executive. ePermit application instructions for Directors and Deans.

Approved individuals may, if eligible, pay for their permit by pre or post-tax payroll deduction. Payroll deductions will continue until the ePermit holder logs in to their account and cancels the permit. An ePermit paid for by payroll deduction cannot be cancelled and re-applied for within two weeks of the cancellation unless approved by the Parking Office. It should be noted the payroll deduction amount may change on 1 January each year.

ePermits paid for by payroll deduction are paid in arrears and no refund will be made.

Permits are for the sole use of the person they have been issued to. They are not to be sold, transferred or shared between drivers.

5. Official Visitors parking
