Text matching with Turnitin CPF
Turnitin CPF is used to assess electronic assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. Submissions are matched against a database of texts for similarity. It provides a 'Turnitin similarity score' on matching text but does not directly check plagiarism.
CPF refers to Canvas Plagiarism Framework, a streamlined way to integrate Turnitin's plagiarism-checking technology into Canvas assignments while using Canvas's built-in tools for marking and feedback
The Turnitin CPF text-matching service can also educate students on appropriate citation, referencing and paraphrasing techniques.
Using Turnitin CPF
Turnitin CPF is available when creating an Asssignment in Canvas with the 'Submission Type' of 'Online'.
To view a Turnitin similarity score on a submitted assignment, access 'SpeedGrader'. From an individual Canvas assignment, a link to Speedgrader is in the righthand side menu under 'Related Items'.
Step-by-step guides to using Turnitin CPF (opens Sharepoint).
Wattle
In Wattle, Turnitin Feedback Studio provides a simplified interface in which you can grade and provide feedback to students about their assignments quickly and easily. Turnitin Feedback Studio is not available in Canvas, the new LMS at the ANU from 2025. Instead, the Canvas assessment, marking and feedback tools are used.
