How do I know I need to respond to FOI?
An FOI officer will contact you if you are required to assist in responding to an FOI request. In responding to an FOI request you should direct all communications and information to the FOI officer; you do not need to respond directly to the applicant. The FOI officers work in collaboration with the Legal Office, therefore all information and decisions are discussed before proceeding.
You may be required to assist because you are mentioned by name in the application, or you work in the area that generates information most relevant to the request. If you are contacted and believe there may be others who hold information relevant to the request please inform the FOI officer.
The FOI officer will explain the process and then send you the relevant materials to assist you in responding.
As an ANU employee you must provide all information you have relevant to the request, regardless of whether you believe it should be released or not.
